7 Essential Tricks To Make New Habits Stick

This time it’s for real. You’re really going to give up coffee. You’re really, actually going to start the day with 10 minutes of meditation and journaling. You’re seriously going to start hunting for a better, more fulfilling job. Sound familiar? (Me, too.) We all love a fresh start. It’s invigorating to brush off the cobwebs and take steps towards a new life. But a few weeks in, you might find yourself dragging your feet and falling back into your old habits of coffee and Netflix and complaining about your job while doing zip about it. If this is you, don’t…

The Perfectly Imperfect Project: Real Self Care

I’m a huge, huge proponent of self-care.  I do my best to give my mind, heart, and body the love they deserve.   Sometimes that means letting go of relationships that aren’t working. Sometimes that means forgiving. Sometimes that means finally hiring an intern to help juggle the million little things that go into maintaining an internet presence. Or, sometimes that means walking + manicures + snacks. Here are a few of the things I do to love myself. :: Walking around my neighborhood at least once a week on Saturday or Sunday, with my daughter. Walking on the weekend with nature reminds me…

How to Forgive Someone Who Hurt You (in 3 Simple Steps)

Have you ever found yourself saying, “I’m just not ready to forgive them yet?” I get that feeling. Truly, I do. When you’ve been wronged or betrayed or hurt, it can take months—sometimes years—before you feel ready to forgive and move on. The problem is that being unforgiving harms you far more than it harms the person who hurt you. Holding on to anger, resentment, and a sense of betrayal permeates every part of your life—from your health to the success of future relationships. Thankfully, you don’t need to feel ready to forgive. Forgiveness is a deliberate act. You can…

How Trying to Feel Better is Actually Making You Feel Worse

“I shouldn’t feel this way,”  I silently told myself. “I should really be more grateful. Look at all the stuff I have to be grateful for! What’s wrong with me? Ok… ok… ok… what do I need to do to feel more grateful?” THIS is the conversation loop that swirls through my head when I’m feeling a way I think I shouldn’t be feeling. At first blush of a painful, inconvenient feeling should we not be stammering to: a walk, a call with a friend, an uplifting podcast or Youtube video? I certainly thought so. But maybe aggressively trying to…

What I Do When I Need to Know Everything is Going to Be OK

In some ways we all have a childhood we are recovering from.  Many of us have grown up in a simultaneously complicated yet loving, uncertain but supportive family environment.  As a result we come to many erroneous conclusions about who we are, what the world is, and what is required from us to be OK, let alone “succeed” at life. And as I see it, that same lot of us spend decades trying to unlearn and undo these false narratives. Steadfastly searching for a renewed sense of joy, freedom, and expansion. I too have current and past struggles to clear……

Feel ‘stuck’? Is it just me?

Do this 2 min exercise to release your stress

Think about a stressful situation you’re facing at the moment–something small or something epic. Close your eyes and scan your body, noticing where you feel tension when you think about this tough situation. It might take a minute to find the spot. (Good places to check: jaw, shoulders, belly, chest, throat.) Rest your hand on the tense spot and take a comfortable inhale, imagining the breath flowing into and around the spot. Exhale naturally, all the way out. Repeat a few times, letting your breath take you right into the center of the tension; your hand will help remind you to direct your breath. If you’ve noticed tension in more…
